How to Apply for the SASSA SRD R370 Grant Online?

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) provides a R370 payment to more than 19 million people in 2025. The grant is distributed through a proper channel. Each beneficiary has to apply for the SRD grant to get the R370 payment. The application is only available at the SASSA SRD grant portal. You can not use the SASSA offices to apply for the Social Relief of Distress grant. After the application, you must check your SRD status online on our website to ensure your application status is approved. SASSA SRD Grant Payment Dates 2025 Here is the complete schedule of the SASSA SRD grant 2025. January 2025 26 - 31 February 2025 25 - 28 March 2025 26 - 31 April 2025 25 - 30 May 2025 26 - 31 June 2025 25 - 30 July 2025 26 - 31 August 2025 26 - 31 September 2025 25 - 30 October 2025 26 - 31 November 2025 25 - 30 December 2025 26 - 31 SASSA SRD R370 Payment Eligibility Criteria for 2025 SASSA uses a verification system called the means test to verify the applicants. However, before you apply, you must follow the eligibility rules. South African Status: You must be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or registered refugee. Age Requirement: You must be between 18 and 59 years old. No Other Grants: You must not be receiving any other social grant, UIF, or NSFAS support. Income Limit: Your total monthly income must be less than R624, as verified by SASSA’s means test. Unemployed: You must not have formal employment or receive regular financial support. Not in State Care: You cannot live in a government-funded or state-run institution. Valid ID: You must provide a valid South African ID or asylum seeker permit. Registered Cellphone: You must use a cellphone number registered in your name to receive OTPs and updates. How to Apply for the SASSA SRD R370 Grant? Applying for the SASSA SRD R370 grant in 2025 is simple if you follow each step carefully. The process takes place online through the official SRD website. This guide will help you complete your application correctly. Step 1: Visit the Official SRD Website Click here: srd.sassa.gov.za This is the only platform where you can apply for the R370 SRD grant. Do not use any other site or visit SASSA offices for applications. Step 2: Select Your Status Choose one of the following options: South African ID Holders Asylum Seekers or Special Permit Holders Click the option that applies to your status to continue the application. Step 3: Start the Application Look for the link that says "Click here to apply online" and click it. This will take you to the digital application form. Step 4: Enter Your Phone Number You must provide a valid cellphone number. Make sure the number is registered in your name. SASSA uses this number for verification and updates. Step 5: Receive and Enter Your PIN You will get a one-time PIN (OTP) via SMS. Enter this PIN on the website to verify your phone number. Step 6: Accept Terms and Conditions Read the Declaration and Consent for the SRD grant. Then, click to accept the terms before you continue. Step 7: Fill Out the Application Form Enter your personal details, including: Full name ID number or permit number Address Employment status Monthly income Educational level Disability (yes/no) Home address City Municipality Province Ward number District Cell Phone number where SMS from SASSA will be sent Make sure all information is accurate to avoid delays. Step 8: Choose Your Payment Method You must select how you want to receive your grant payment. You can choose from: Request Post Bank Account Capture Own Bank Account Select Bank for Cash Send You can choose the cash send option to get the payment via cash transfer to Pick n Pay or Shoprite. Step 9: Enter Banking Details (If Using a Bank) If you select a bank deposit, you must provide your bank name, account number, and branch code. Make sure the account is in your name. Here is how to do it: Choose the option “Capture Own Bank Account”. From here, you will see a drop-down list where you can check the bank names that are partnered with SASSA Here are the bank names: ABSA FNB CAPITEC BANK NEDBANK STANDARD BANK Once you have selected the bank name, you can now check the bank branch as well. The next step is to choose the “Account Type”. Cheque Savings Transmission Type your account number and save it. Submit the application form and wait for the application status to come out. How to Check SASSA Application Status After Applying? Once you have applied for the SRD grant, you need to make sure that your application status is approved. The status check process is very easy. Here is how to do it: Visit the SRD status check page. In the first section, enter your South African ID number. Write your phone number in the second row. Now, click on the “check status” button to get the application status. What does the SRD SASSA Application Status Mean? When you check your SRD SASSA application status, you may come across one of three main statuses: Pending, Declined, or Failed. Each status gives insight into the progress and outcome of your application for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant. Status Pending means that your application has been received but is still under review. SASSA is verifying your personal details, income status, and eligibility. This stage involves checking data with other government institutions such as Home Affairs, UIF, and SARS. If your application remains in this status for too long, it is advised to check back or contact SASSA for updates regularly. Status Declined indicates that your application did not meet one or more of the eligibility requirements. This could be due to reasons like having alternative sources of income, receiving other grants, or inconsistencies in your information. If you believe this decision is incorrect, you can submit an appeal within 90 days through the official SASSA appeals platform. Status Failed generally means there was a technical or data error during the application process, such as incorrect ID details or verification failures. In such cases, it's important to update your application information and reapply. How to Submit an Appeal Application If the SRD Grant is Rejected? SASSA uses the Department of Home Affairs (DSD) to submit the appeal for all the rejected SRD grant applications. Those who have got declined or failed status can use the SASSA appeal for reconsideration to get their grant payment. I have already written a guide on the SASSA appeal application that you can check. However, here is a short guide. Open the SASSA DSD appeal portal at srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals . Now tap on “lodge an appeal or check appeal status. Carefully read the appeal process and then enter your phone number to get an OTP. Verify the OTP on the DSD portal, and your appeal form will appear on your screen. Complete the form and submit the appeal. Check SRD Appeal Status Online After completing your appeal application, you can check the appeal status online. The process is very easy as described below. Open website srd.sassa.gov.za/appeal Tap on the “check appeal status” button. Provide your appeal application related phone number and South African ID number. Check your appeal status. F.A.Q Can I apply for the SRD grant at the SASSA office? No, you can not apply for the SRD grant at the SASSA office, as this grant is only available on the srd.sassa.gov.za website.
